A dream job 25 years in the making!

Bron: Gaby Zwaan

In 1990 I started working for the Disney Company in the entertainment department of the upcoming park in Paris. There and then lightning strikes and my love for the theme park industrie started.

First the craft of the entertaining of the guest as a character was my passion but slowly I started looking at the creative part of the theme park. How was it build and what where the stores behind the rides.

This was the creative environment I wanted to work in but I knew that I was not skilled enough yet so I had to self learn before I could enter this world.

So the last 25 years I spend as a artist doing all sorts of tech art projects (check my resume) all over the globe. All based on my own concepts and in collaboration with big companies. (Layar / Samsung / Puma / Nike / Kodak / Tour de France / Disney / Endemol / Ikea / Efteling / Ajax / Unilever / Jetix / Gallerie Dubai / Canon / Ade / Art basel)

I’ve become pretty good at coming up with unique and amazing concept that made people happy and smile.

Then I arrived at a crossroads in my creative career this was the moment for me, my theme park creative school was finished.

There I was fresh out of school, now what? What to do the next 25 years of my creative life.so last September and November I was at the Iaapa trade show in Amsterdam and Orlando. I oriented myself and made a top 10 of companies that I really like and believe fitted me and my creative brain.

I started to connect, building a network and pitching my creative brain to people of the industrie that I respected. Slowly crowing to my top 10, needed it to be perfect when I’m sitting down with them.

I’m not the standard creative but I believe I have a lot to offer and can bring a fresh angle to the table. Having said that I also know that this industrie does it a certain way. So to get people to believe in you as much as I do, you have to fight and never ever give up because superhero never do.

So I’m fighting for my next 25 years to be the best I’ve ever had, playing in the superbowl of creativity every single day. Not on my own but with amazing companies that paved the road in this industrie.

I'm not there yet but I have a smile on my face and I keep on fighting every single day.
