7 Vintage Costume Postcards - Volendam (foto's)

Bron: Petronella Luiting

Seven vintage postcards showing the traditional costume of the little village of Volendam in Noord-Holland in The Netherlands. The two oldest cards must be from around 1910, one card is from the sixties, three cards are from the seventies, and one card is a reproduction of a card from 1905 (6 cards were actually sent).

The Volendam costume is outside Holland often represented as the national costume, with the white lace winged-cap that got exaggerated over time. Very typical are also the wide woollen fisherman trousers of the men. These facts made it very suitable for painters and caricaturists. All cards are drawing / paintings. The first card is by Jh. Gerstenhauer (signature), the second card is by Ethel Parkinson (signature), the third card is by v.d. Walle, the following three cards are typical Dutch souvenir cards (unsigned), and the last card is by Henri Cassiers (signature).

All cards come from my own traditional costume collection; because of space shortage, I sell parts of it here on Etsy. Payment can be done by Paypal and within the EU also by direct bank transfer. Details on request.
