Edam-Volendam rejects Ziggo bid for CAI
The municipality of Edam-Volendam will not sell cable operator CAI to Ziggo, rejecting the EUR 10 million offer (EUR 875 per connection), Emerce reported. Ziggo already provides triple play services on CAI's network. One survey showed 63 percent of respondents rejecting the takeover. A sale would mean a rise in prices, even though the operation is profitable already. More than 95 percent of households passed by CAI's network use the operator's services.
The municipality has budgedted EUR 410,000 for expanding the services to new housing projects. A basic package at CAI, offering analogue and digital TV, costs EUR 87.80 per year (EUR 7.32 per month). With Ziggo, a TV package with 25 analogue and 60 digital channels, 10 Mbps internet and VoIP costs EUR 42 per month, not including a EUR 15.50 discount. Ziggo also provides 40 Mbps and 120 Mbps.
