Uitdam vanuit de lucht (video drone)

On one of the most beautiful days in august, yesterday afternoon, i made this great footage of the village Uitdam.

There are only 180 inhabitants. However the village has its own church, it is build in 1937. Until 1830 the village belonged to the municipality Zuiderwoude, both they became a part of the municipality Broek in Waterland. The beginning of the town was in the 13th century after the construction of a dam. In the 14th century the town was first mentioned as Uutdam . This place name may indicate that the dam is exterior to the seacoast. It is also possible that it was the most extreme dam that was built . 

The town is never been big but really knew long significant income from shipping, especially in the VOC era . The construction of the North Holland Canal in the early 19th century reduced their income. The village went along with nearby Marken, on the new revenues from tourism, which also gained more influence in the early 20th century. The farmers were in the 19th century importantly, this is still visible . 

On the night of 13 on January 14 1916 the dike that protected Uitdam the Zuider Zee broke through . The dikes at the nearby Katwoude Durgerdam and vomiting that night. This led to a major flood in parts of the province of North Holland .

During World War II was built a bunker by the Germans on the southern tip of Uitdam. Between island Marken and Uitdam were built a dike in the years after the war. This dike was  on October 17th 1957 closed, and so Uitdam and Marken were interconnected and Marken is not really an island.

The Tourism in Uitdam and Marken led inter alia to the construction of the current marina just north of the core Uitdam , which are also located a campsite and a swimming pool. This is clear to see in my movie.
